Leaving the city of Salalah, you come across the sign that says it's only 74 kilometers to Thumrait.
What it doesn't tell you is that this stretch of road has a few things to watch out for.....
Of course the first clue should have been what lay before you - the rocky hills.
And the climb begins.
Of course there's always the scenery.
This is a view of the valley outside of Salalah at a point about half way up the hill.
Looking down on the coastal plain where Salalah sits.
Can you make out what the sign says?
Oh, that's what it said.
Hey, wait for me!
This can't be too bad, right?
Of course I could be wrong.....
When ships of the desert take to the road.
Oh, great, they even mingle.
Hey! There weren't any signs about donkeys!
Of course there are other hazards.
We found this off in the hills while looking for Job's Tomb. With all the money these countries bring in in oil profits, they still have plenty of people who never see the benefits. This is definitely just surviving. A home made of tarps, blankets and sheets of wood and metal.
