A Panoramic View of Manama

The view from my apartment window.

Well, at least I can say it's seaside....for now. This was an inlet from the bay when I moved in here. They've already cut it off and made it a big salt water pond. In time they'll fill it in and build yet more multi-storey buildings on it. At the rate they're going, Bahrain will no longer be an island.

My apartment building - The Luluview.

The road heading towards my place.

With plenty of construction going on along the way.

Of course there are those with money living on the opposite side of the road.

Of course I sometimes have doubts about my neighborhood -

Just around the corner from me - the Hotel Califonia.

I have to wonder -
Can you check out anytime you want but you can never leave?

The Grand Mosque

The mosque is just down the road from me. As far as I know, it's the largest in the kingdom.

A Dhow (pronounced "dow"). It's the traditional fishing boat of the region.

Fort Arad

The fort was built at the end of the 15th century and beginning of the 16th century when the Portuguese occupied the area.
It was used for about 300 years by various powers.

My unofficial tour guides - the policeman assigned to the fort and the gate attendant.

Me at the gates of the fort. I had just gotten off from work and swung by on the way home.

Cannons found during excavations.

Sunset over Manama.
